It doesn’t matter if you’re installing a cabinet or building a home – the trusty laser level should always be a part of your repertoire. With this in mind, we thought we would share a couple of ways this ingenious gadget can come in handy, to ensure you get the very best usage out of one of these awesome appendages.
Here are the most handy ways to use construction lasers in the home:
1. For hanging curtains & paintings
If your pedantic does your head in when you see a crooked painting, then perhaps you need a level. They always ensure a perfect alignment, meaning you won’t have to worry about that stunning work you bought being just a little bit off centre…
All you have to do is determine the height of the curtain or frame before beginning. For curtain rods, the best rule of thumb is to measure four inches above the window before marking the height with a pencil.
Now it’s time for the level to work its magic. You want to adjust the laser so that the beam can run horizontally across the height you marked for the curtains. Next, test the level by allowing it to self-level if it’s automatic or adjusting the bubble if it’s a manual level. Once this is done, you can secure your level through mounting on the wall or with a proper mount.
For hanging frames, measure the distance between the hanging mechanism and the top of the frame. Once again, mark the measurement on the wall before driving a nail into the mark on the wall. Next, you can hang the painting before aligning it with the level’s line.
For curtain rods, you only have to measure their width before installing brackets along the projected beam and at the ends of the width.
2. For installing cabinets
Cabinet installation is made so much easier with the help of construction lasers. Using a cross-line level, a vertical and horizontal line can be simultaneously created for both aligning cabinets and transferring stud locations. You want to secure the level onto a tripod a few inches away from the wall before installing the cabinet.
Marking kitchen cabinets can be a frustrating and time-consuming venture, but with a cross-line level, you can get the job done with ease. Start by simply locating the stud with a stud finder. Next, mark their centres before turning on your level and aligning its vertical lines to run through the stud mark.
Next, measure the height of the kitchen cabinet from bottom to top before marking the measurement on the wall. Align the marked bottom part of the cabinet with the level’s horizontal beam. Once this is done, mount a support rail or ledger below the bottom line before screwing it into the stud marks.
Finally, ensure the horizontal beam can run through the marked top of the kitchen cabinet. Place the cabinet on the ledger before aligning the top of the cabinet with the horizontal laser. Place the cabinet on the ledger and align the horizontal beam with the cabinet’s top part. You can now attach your cabinet through the stud.
See, it’s that easy
As you can see, the hi-tech level was designed to make jobs big or small that much easier. Once you have one of these awesome gadgets at the ready, you can be sure that it will provide the assistance you need to work in the home improvement with absolute ease!
